As the weather warms up, there’s no better place to spend a few lazy sunny hours than exploring Bellarine Wineries, with their premium maritime climate influenced wines and incredibly idyllic bayside views. But fact remains, getting there from Melbourne involves a painful journey by road that can quickly break the weekend free spirit.
Thankfully Bellarine Peninsula winery Terindah Estate has partnered with Port Phillip Ferries to create the ultimate wine and dine tour package allowing guests to escape the city on water. Cruising direct from Melbourne, the ferry departs from Victoria Harbour, Docklands and arrives at Portarlington Pier, a short 5 minute drive from Terindah Estate. The tour includes tastings of award-wining wines at Terindah Estate’s cellar door followed by lunch in The Shed overlooking the sweeping views of Port Phillip Bay. An affiliate winery will treat tour-goers to another wine tasting before heading back to Melbourne on a sunset cruise.
Terindah is a 100 acre property that offers views across Corio Bay to the You Yangs and across Port Phillip Bay to Melbourne’s city skyline. There are 14 acres under vine, over 100 fig, quince and citrus trees as well as wheat and barley crops on rotation. The Estate produces sparkling wine, pinot gris, chardonnay, pinot noir and many more varieties.
In 2013, The Shed restaurant at Terindah Estate was rated as one of the top 5 Victorian regional restaurants to visit by Tourism Victoria. Today it remains a hallmark of the Bellarine. With an experienced kitchen team led by Executive Chef Ivan Roianov and Sous Chef Claudio Carta, the menu utilises the abundance of local, seasonal produce including produce from the Terindah property and herb garden.
Plated food is healthy, flavoursome and wonderfully colourful, using fresh spring herbs and delicate floral garnishes. We feel the Port Phillip Bay cruise / winery tour is one of Victoria’s best new tourism offerings and is a must do this season.
