Unlike other ski resorts, Victoria’s Dinner Plain has a year-round community with a life of its own, and it’s quintessentially Australian. There are no fences and the houses are designed with the old cattlemen’s huts in mind. When people walk around the village, they regain their sense of freedom. Entering the village by crossing the cattle grid signals one’s arrival – it’s time to shed some stress and unwind in style true opulent Bond villain style.

The Last Run is a no-expenses-spared chalet for those seeking luxury with a distinctive resort-like ambience. The Chalet’s architects, Grounds Kent, are best known for their hotel projects in Bali; and for this residence they called in Roman architect Giovanni d’Ambrosio to weave some extra magic.

Four-person spa in the adjoining the living room
Natural Australian hardwoods feature throughout

The Chalet accommodates six people, but if you want to invite a few extra friends around, the dining room allows for a dinner party of twelve. While food is being prepared, guests can take turns in the four-person spa bath which sits between the living and dining areas, with it own bar. Guests even have their own powder-room, which thanks to underfloor heating, is a pleasure to walk to in bare feet, even in the middle of winter. If this sound opulent with friends, try having the place to yourselves.

With commanding village views, the master bedroom is so spacious that the king bed looks small; and if you don’t fancy sharing your spa, the en suite also has a deep spa tub, as well as a huge walk-in twin rain shower, his and hers basins, and luxury toiletries.

Designer master en suite

Close to the shuttle bus stop, The Last Run contains ample facilities to dry-off after a day’s skiing, and it’s only a minute’s stroll to the Onsen Retreat and Spa, as well as some of the mountain’s best food and drink including Mountain Kitchen, Hotel High Plains and Blizzard Brewery. While it’s one of the earliest developments within the Dinner Plain village, Last Run Chalet, we feel, is one of the most extravagant examples of boom time Australian alpine architecture.

Accommodation

Maximum 6 guests, 3 bedrooms (king, queen and 2 singles) and a sofa-bed in the snug. Undercover parking for 1 car.

We Like

Central to Dinner Plain’s restaurants and brewery, the Onsen Retreat and Spa and the Shuttle Bus stop. Walking straight into a toasty-warm chalet with no need to queue for a check-in, you only need a pin number. The opulence: typified by the four-person spa adjoining the living room.
