It’s the quintessential aperitif and has in recent years become the summer go to party drink that Australians simply adore. We’re of course talking about the brightly orange luminescent coloured Aperol Spritz. Given its popularity we’re pleased to share the news of the 100 years of Aperol celebration coming to Melbourne this summer.
One of Essentials very favourite inner city boutique hotels, the Adelphi on Flinders Lane has collaborated with the Campari Group to celebrate 100 years of Aperol with its Weekend Summer Sessions – a soon to be launched summer Aperol Spritz cocktail activation, on the hotel’s iconic rooftop pool deck.
From Saturday, 7 December, 2019 to Sunday, March 1, 2020, guests will be able to enjoy their Summer afternoons the Italian way with classic aperitivo offerings of Aperol Spritz, Campari and Soda, Prosecco, Peroni and a range of enticing non-alcoholic options.
Each Summer Session will kick off with Happy Hour from 12:30-1.30pm with Aperol Spritz available for just $8. A seasonal snack menu from Adelphi’s signature restaurant, Om Nom Kitchen will be on offer, featuring delicious items such as Halloumi Fries with Chilli + Lime Crema.
Created in 1919, Aperol’s recipe has been a tightly held secret over the past century. We can however confirm that this classic Italian bitter apéritif is made with gentian herb, rhubarb, and cinchona, among other ingredients. Its name comes from the Italian slang word for aperitif, which is apero.
That been said, with Aperol Spritz, gourmet snacks, and the awesome rooftop views, the Adelphi Rooftop is one destination we’ll be certain to drop in on. Forgive us if you catch us dipping our toes in the shallow end! Shhh!
Celebrate by making your own Aperol Spritz
Simply pour 60ml Aperol, 90ml Australian Prosecco (we prefer Dal Zotto) and 30ml of soda water into a large wine glass. Fill the wine glass to the top with ice. Garnish with an orange wedge. Enjoy!
Weekend Summer Sessions:
12.30-6.00pm, every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from Saturday, 7 December, 2019 to Sunday 1 March, 2020. Happy Hour from 12.30-1.30pm with $8 Aperol Spritz (regular price is $14).
The Weekend Summer Sessions are non-ticketed events. Entry to the Rooftop is free. Swimming in the Adelphi pool is reserved for staying hotel guests only.
About the Adelphi
The Queen of Melbourne’s boutique hotel scene, the iconic Adelphi opened a new chapter in 2014 as the world’s first ‘dessert’ hotel. Featuring a rather genius remodelled interior by Melbourne designer Fady Hachem. Step inside to explore its subtle delights: Liquorice Allsorts designer seats, cushions shaped like boiled lollies, diamond cut-out gold reflective tiled ceiling panels and pastel metallic pink lips colour the ground floor as you move from entry lobby swing lounges through to the Om Nom restaurant and dessert bar.
Throughout the hotel, Hachem’s touch is painted with quirky pastel ceramics, green succulents, gold and chrome industrial metallics, art and sculpture installations and super-high-gloss sassafras timber wall panels reminiscent of Dr. No’s secret underground island lair. Up above, the Adelphi’s infamous rooftop pool beckons – see you there over summer!
